Your Responsible Style Guide

Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta and Wimbledon are approaching fast and the buzz of the summer sporting season is here! Royal Ascot is kicking things off, starting on the 20th of June through to the 24th. So with that, we have put together a Style Guide, honouring the official dress code of the event, but adding a sustainable twist with suggestions from some of our favourite responsible menswear brands.

This year Ascot have released the annual style guide, but have added a refreshing redesign that marks a new direction, called the Lookbook. The Lookbook is divided up into six sections – Luxe, Tailoring, Pre-Loved & Rental, Vintage, High Street and Emerging Designer.

There is a clear focus on encouraging a more conscious approaching to dress as Lookbook stylist Jefferson Day said, "this season I wanted to encourage unexpected freedom under the guidance of the enclosure dress codes... I want to excite people to think outside of the box – whether that be shopping resourcefully on the high street or by being more eco-conscious through hiring a look or finding a rare vintage gem."

This ethos is a refreshing take and one that we also like to encourage at Alder & Green. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel your personal best, without compromising your comfort, being overpriced and made irresponsibly.

These are our curated looks, comprised of responsible designers, brands and items that are timeless and can be used for all special occasions.

Royal Enclosure

It is essential to wear a morning suit, sticking to a strict grey or black color scheme. Consider pairing with a top hat and waistcoat to create the ultimate expression of refined Dandy style. We have suggested the following:

- Our Alder & Green Formal Twill in White as the perfect base

- A morning suit from Favourbrook

- Our Alder & Green Black Ribbed organic cotton socks

- Recycled cufflinks from Rosie Priestly Jewellery

- A bamboo yarn tie from DoubleTwo

- Black Herring Churchill II Oxfords

Queen Anne Enclosure

The dress code is slightly more relaxed, allowing for a full-length suit consisting of a matching trouser and jacket. It is essential to wear a tie, as cravats and bow-ties are not allowed. Additionally, it is recommended to wear full-length socks to cover the ankles. We recommend:

- Our Alder & Green Twill Shirt in Blue Stripe

- A recycled trouser suit from Moss Bros

- A silk tie from Alder & Green (in-store)

- Alder and Green Organic Cotton Socks in Navy

Village Enclosure and Windsor Enclosure

Known for its relaxed ambiance, the Village Enclosure attracts larger groups and those seeking a quintessential summer picnic experience. The dress code in this enclosure is considerably more laid-back, permitting a full-length suit paired with a collared shirt. As for neckwear, attendees have the option to wear a bow-tie or cravat. While socks are still required to cover the ankle, this area allows for more freedom in terms of bolder patterns and vibrant colors.

- Alder & Green Royal Oxford in White, Sky Blue or Pink

- Wool Trousers from L'estrange

- Alder and Green Organic Cotton socks in pin spot
